COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Drilling Mechanics and Math workshop improves operational effectiveness of rig site personnel by providing foundational math skills with a direct linkage to practical drilling and completion applications.

DESIGNED FOR
Operator technical support and operations supervision personnel, drilling contractor rig crew and technical support personnel, and service company personnel including fluids / solids control, directional / BHA / MWD, downhole Tools, casing and cementing, bit, wellhead / BOP, QA/QC, and logistics support. A calculator is required.

3. Unit conversion
4. Manipulating fractions, decimals, and percentages
5. Using a scientific calculator
6. Forces on the rig floor and in the wellbore
7. Mechanical Advantage
8. Levers, Gears, and Pulleys
9. Fluid Mechanics
10. Hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy turbulence, and friction
11. Well Control
12. Casing and Cementing jobs
13. Drill string make up torque and line pull
14. Pipe Tallies
15. Hole cleaning and ECD
16. Mixing drilling fluids
17. WOB and BHA requirements
18. Pump liner requirements
19. Directional drilling
20. Drilling Mechanics and Math 1 is typically focused on rig site personnel from entry level through derrickmen.
21. Drilling Mechanics and Math 2 more fully develops these concepts. The intent is to equip derrickmen, drillers, rig managers, and drilling supervisors to use math on a daily basis to manage the technical demands on the rig site and to familiarize them with math required for the IADC Well Control certification course.
