TRAINING OBJECTIVE:
Assuming only the most basic knowledge of the physics of fire protection, this training program equips the participants with a sound understanding of the many uses of fire protection in practical engineering. Each component part is described and followed by sections on whole systems of various types. In line with the strongly practical bias of the program, maintenance, trouble-shooting, and safety systems and regulations are all covered.

2. Smoke Management.
Factors in Smoke Management, Confinement, Dilution, Exhaust.
3. Water for Fire Supression.
Standpipes and Hoses, Sprinklers, Upfeed Pumping, Provisions for Water Drainage.
4. Other Fire Supression Methods.
Portable Fire Extinguishers, Carbon Dioxide, Foams, Halogenated Agents.
5. Fire Alarm Systems.
General Considerations, Fire Codes-Authorities-and Standards, Fire Alarm Definitions and Terms.
6. Principles of Automatic Fire Detection.
Incipient Stage, Smoldering Stage, Flame Stage, Heat Stage.
7. Detector Application Guidelines.
Manual Stations, Sprinkler Alarms.
8. Types of Fire Alarm Systems
Local Protective Signaling System, Auxiliary Protective Signaling System, Remote-Station Protective Signaling System, Propietary Protective Signaling Systems.
9. System Coding.
Noncoded Systems, Master-Coded Systems, Zone-Coded Systems, Dual-Coded Systems, Selective-Coded Systems, Presignaling
10. Office Building Fire Alarm Systems.
Small to Medium size Buildings, Large and High-Rise Office Buildings.
11. Industrial Building Fire Alarm Systems.
